The Dolphinarium Beach |
|
Just beyond the green lawns of Charles Clore Park, where many festivals and other events take place, is another lovely beach.
The Dolphinuarium which is also known as the Drummers' beach, is located near what used to be a large dolphin tank but has since become a nightclub. It's a very nice beach which offers on the northern side a very calm and "Shanti" (easy going) atmosphere, while on the southern side you can find a surfing club that provides many water sport activities, for a more upbeat atmosphere (Surf Point (03) 524-2139).
The weekend Drumming Festivity
On Fridays, "to welcome the weekend", there is a gathering of drummers on the beach from the early afternoon until late at night. The event is open to all who want to join, and many other fields of expertise besides drumming are exhibited. Juggling, dancing, Capoera and many other different talents are joined in to create a drumming festivity. The ambience is very free, happy and accepting and the participants are mostly young people returning from a long trip in the Far East or South America. There is a genuine feeling of community there and anyone can bring along any instrument to drum on, be it a Darbuka (an Arab drumming instrument) or a tin plate.
