Gordon and Frishman Beaches |
|
This is another lovely stretch of sand which is probably the most popular in Tel Aviv. It offers the choice between lounging chairs and sunshades or sand only, so each bather can take his or her pick.
These beaches are located very near some of the main hotels, which make them very convenient and accessible for tourists. There is a reasonable café offering cool drinks and ice creams. In the summer there are sometimes parties and events on the beach itself or nearby. For adults amusement - there is a volleyball court just off Gordon, and for children's amusement - a kind of beach Playground on Frishman.
Weekends
The beach is clean and pleasant and not overcrowded on weekdays, but on weekends it's quite a different story. The beach is almost popping with tanned youngsters, roaming it on high heels or scorching themselves in the sun. The beach is known to be the gathering place for the bold beautiful and sun fearless, if a "gathering place" for such a group is plausible. In short you will find very minimal bikinis and oversized breasts that are not the result of genetics.
Gordon swimming pool
Just at the end of Gordon Beach is Gordon swimming pool, which has long been the very popular with Tel Aviv's elite community and Celebes. Unfortunately, it is open only during June, July and August. This piece of information would have been much appreciated before I set out on a hot September day for a dip in this lovely saltwater pool. The pool is surrounded with lovely lawns, and the view of the sea and the marina are very pleasant. The fact that the pool is filled with salty ground water is a obvious plus, much nicer than the chemical aroma of chlorine.
The Tel Aviv Municipality has been threatening to bring down this monumental pool, so perhaps there will be no pool by the time you visit Tel Aviv. Before going there make sure it still exists!
