Hilton Beach |
|
Between the Religious beach and Gordon, we have this fine beach which is named after the nearby Hilton Hotel, and is especially popular with three different groups of Tel Aviv's residents.
A Canine beach
The most Northern part of the Hilton beach is the only place in which dogs are allowed to enter. Since many of Tel Aviv's residents prefer the company of their dog to that of another person, this exception to the "no dogs on beach" rule is very popular.
But, if you don't have a dog this part of the beach is probably not your best choice. As much as people love their dogs, they don't tend to pick up what they leave behind. That, combined with dogs chasing each other constantly across your neatly stretched towel, and dogs getting out of the water only to shake off the remainders of the water in your face, make it a trying experience.
The Gay spot
After the dog owners' favorite, comes the gay spot patch of sand. This is the unofficial gay beach for both sexes, but men have especially claimed it as their own.
Fit men walk on the beach with tight bathing suites and well kept figures checking each other out or just laying on the beach chatting and sunbathing, discussing plans for the weekend on Fridays, or telling worthwhile weekend tales as the day ends on Saturdays (for more info on Gay&Lesbian nightlife click here).
The ambience is lively and fun, so you will probably enjoy the beach no matter what your sexual identity may be.
Surf's up
Hilton beach apparently has one of the best patches of sea for surfing in Israel's coastline. This is owing to a reef just off the shore which creates the waves surfers long for. There is a surfing club at the south side of the beach and lots of surfing activity, including an annual surfing competition which takes place here (Sea Center (03) 650-3000).
Hilton beach is not only for Surfers, Gays, Lesbians and Dog owners (which actually includes quite a few members of every society!). It's an excellent beach for everyone, with plenty of things going on around and a pretty stretch of sand.
