Old Sheraton Beach (Mezzizzim) |
|
It used to be the cool and hip beach to go to, attracting Tel Aviv's northern community, but now it's a little rundown.
In the seventies, an Israeli cult film was made on this beach, and since then it has been known as Mezzizzim (Peeking beach).
It used to be a very nice and trendy beach, but today it looks like a plastic chair jungle. In addition, the water in this part of the coast is less clean and so is the beach. The proximity to the Yarkon River is the main reason for the water's uncleanness. Add the view of Tel Aviv's main power plant Rieding, and endless planes landing in the nearby Dov airport, to top off the scenery.
Some might say this beach has "urban charm", but plastic bags floating in the water are not very charming. It is still a favorite with many of Tel Aviv's residents, but it's a little difficult to explain why.
