Levinsky Street has one of the finest markets in Tel Aviv, specializing in spices and Mediterranean delicacies.
Levinsky market holds mostly spices and delicatessen products, such as pickles, herring and many other regional delights (from, Turkey, Romania, Greece etc.). There are spice shops and delis scattered down the street in which you have a wide variety of choices. Whether you are looking for a rare Indian spice or some good quality Saffron - this is the place. "Haim Raphael" (36 Levinsky St.), is one of the most famous places in Florentine, offering a variety of excellent cheeses, smoked fish, wines and other delicacies. Grab a Turkish Burekas in one of the small shops, and enjoy the interesting and colorful variety. The vendors are a little possessive about their merchandise, so expect to get some nasty looks if you spend too much time picking the best of the pile. Levinsky Market is, in many ways, the best market in Tel Aviv, for its variety, freshness and special atmosphere. Try to get here on Friday lunch time, it's a little hectic but fun a lively.
New restaurants seem to be popping up all the time on Levinsky and the adjoining streets of Florentine Neighborhood - laidback vegetarian joints, tasty Middle-Eastern restaurants and more. One of the most acclaimed places is a Persian restaurant called Slimie on 80 Nachalet Binyamin St. Its more like a kiosk then a restaurant but that line of people waiting to be seated does indeed attest to the quality of the food served at this Tel Avivi joint. Pop in to try some totally authentic Persian (i.e. Iranian) specialties.
