Sommer Gallery is one of Israel's leading galleries, introducing Israeli artists to foreign crowds and hosting some prominent international artists at the gallery.
On November 2005 the gallery opened a new showroom on Rothschild Blvd.; it is located in a beautiful historical building with a peaceful little garden on the inner courtyard. This area is becoming Tel Aviv's "new down town", with more and more art and cultural spots opening here in accord with the architectural Bauhaus landscape.
Sommer has introduced the Israeli public to accomplished foreign artists, Projects such as "Israel Portraits" by Rineke Dijkstra and "Dreams & Dramas" by Ugo Rondinone were conceived by and exhibited in the gallery.
"Sommer gallery believes in creating a large cultural market and aims to put Tel Aviv on the art world map", the gallery's directors point out. And indeed the gallery keeps close ties with associate galleries around the world (Sadie Coles in London, Arndt & Partner in Berlin, Natalie Obadia in Paris and more.), and has played a dominant role in bringing Israeli contemporary art to international attention, participating in art fairs, world wide biennales, and various exhibitions.
