One of the biggest museums in Israel, Tel Aviv Museum of Art holds a wide selection of works and offers an interesting representation of Israeli art and culture.

The Tel Aviv Museum of Art was opened as early as 1932, before the state of Israel was even founded.  The museum's main emphasis is on Israeli art, but it also has a selection of European art, including paintings of artists such as Renoir, Monet, Van Gogh, Matisse, and Picasso. The museum also has an interesting department for photography, as well as design and architecture.

The museum's temporary exhibitions are its main attraction, offering a peek into the vibrant world of art in Israel through the work of its finest artists.

In addition, the museum has a small cinema (Tel Aviv Museum Cinema), in which it screens a selection of foreign films, usually highly praised by the critics. Make sure the film has subtitles in English; it could be a little frustrating to watch Kim-Ki-duk's latest Korean film without understanding a word.

    • jef m  - high quality exhibition

This museum has a very good selection of modern art, with one or more examples from most postimpressionist and good 20 c painters. It is very quiet and a reasonable size. The cafe is good but the menu is hebrew only - surprising for a museum of this type. I visit many of the bigger european museums and this has a wider selection than many - note the klimt, Pollocks, Gris, and early picassos.

    • Guest  - An exhibition in the museum

Only a couple of weeks ago (1/4), an exhibition of a well-known Israeli artist called Michal Rovner was opened in the museum. It's a very interesting exhibition which is really worth a visit!
