In August the heat really peeks, but so does Tel Aviv's culture and nightlife scene. A variety of open air festivals and other outdoor events help everyone to cool down.
Comics and Caricature Festival
Yet another one in the long list of Tel Aviv Cinematheque festivals, this event focuses on the animated aspect of art.
The Beer Festival
A large beer festival takes place in the lovely Charles Clore Park each year. The festival focuses on its chosen alcoholic beverage, but also introduces man live music shows and other amusements.
Two days of beer and beer only, so you can imagine that the whole event is in rather high in spirits.

Beach Cinema
During a week in August, Banana Beach offersan open air screening of well-known films. Starting in the early evening, you can grab a seat and enjoy one of the contemporary classics ("When Harry met Sally", various Monty Pythons etc.), while sipping a cold beer or enjoying some dinner in the heat of August.

Red Sea Jazz Festival in Eilat
27-30 August 2007
This annual event has been taking place in the city of Eilat for years now, and attracts many of the best Jazz artists in the world. Justly, this festival has gained much respect and recognition, and it is probably one of the most famous festivals taking place in Israel. During these four days, there's a non-stop Jazz extravaganza! Besides the prescheduled shows (about which you can learn more on the festival's website), there are also plenty of Jamming sessions, the most well known of which takes place in the Riviera Hotel and usually goes on till dawn. Israeli jazz fanatics flock to this event, but it also a festival which suits non-expert tastes. It's famous for its mellow vibe and the talented artists participating in it. The beautiful red mountains surrounding Eilat are just a bonus.
