Fashion Designers Bazaar
14-16 January 2011
Every summer and winter Tel Aviv's top designers hold an end of season bazaar in which they sell their items for a modest discount. It's a very crowded and colorful event, which offers plenty of entertainment and music alongside the huge selection of fashion items. The organizers charge a NIS 15 entrance fee, which naturally brings up the question: does it really make sense to have to pay to be given the freedom to buy clothes? Apparently, many of Israel's younger crowd of fashion-aware women and men do believe that it does. Apart from the surprising entrance fee, it is a very amusing happening which gives you access to the creations of all the best designers in Tel Aviv all in one place. Thu 16:00-23:00, Fri 10:00-18:00 and Sat 11:00-23:00
At Ganai HaTaarucha (Pavilion 10); NIS 15 entrance fee

Public Tree holiday (Tu Bishvat)
20 January 2011
Once a year the Jewish calendar gives respect to trees, plants, flowers etc. It is the day to bless all which is green and grows. Children have special outings, in which they plant trees in a forest and sing the holiday's sing-along. Adults mostly stuff themselves with some dried fruits, which are also a distinctive holiday symbol, but nothing much more than that. It's not a very important holiday so you might not even notice it, only the piles of dried fruits stacking up in the Supermarket on this day might seem odd.
