An Introduction to Jaffa |
|
Jaffa is one of the most beautiful places in Tel Aviv, though some might say it is not an integral part of Tel Aviv but rather a place of its own right, a world apart from Tel Aviv.
Its beautiful and relatively untouched beaches, the markets, one of the oldest functioning ports in the world, the architecture and even the air you breathe have something unique about them. It is a favorite with tourists from Israel and abroad (and for a good reason).
Waiting for the big break
For many years now, Jaffa has been expected to become "the area" of southern Tel Aviv, but expectations have yet to be fulfilled. Building projects are being developed and new restaurants open often, while expecting Jaffa to become what it is meant to be. But in the meantime, there is still drug abuse poverty and violence, especially due to territorial tension. It's not dangerous, but the instability limits economical growth and development keeping Jaffa a little behind. And it might be a little unpleasant to walk alone at night.
Jaffa offers you a completely different experience from the vibrant hustle bustle of Tel Aviv, less than a 15 minutes drive from the center of Tel-Aviv but almost like arriving to a different country.
