Here are a few suggestions on how to make a day with children in Tel Aviv pleasurable and anxiety free. Follow are schedule or rearrange the activities according to your own preferences.
Breakfast and a morning class in Dyada
Dyada is a Children's Center in Tel Aviv that has two branches and offers a wide selection of children classes throughout the day, as well as a children friendly restaurant-café. The food is rather nice and there are many amusements for the kids (including many other kids who are running around the place). Dyada could be a good start to the day, allowing your kids to burn out some energy while you enjoy a relatively peaceful breakfast.
Dyada
Address: 75 Ben-Gurion St and the Tel Aviv Port
Tel: (+972) 1700-700-815
After leaving Dyada, make your way up north by taxi or bus and head for the Yarkon Park.
Fun Activity in Park Hayarkon
There are endless activities in the Yarkon Park for all ages and preferences. There is a small Zoo with birds and dears, bicycles rentals where you can either take a bicycle for each member of the family or choose the family version and a sports center too. An especially nice family option in the park is taking a boat trip down the Yarkon River (however, be sure not to dip in the water!), just choose between rowing and paddling boats (Boating Center: 03-642-0541). And if you just feeling like taking a break, you can find a comfortable shaded spot to rest or even arrange a picnic while the kids play. After you finished enjoy Hayarkon Park, work your way down to the Tel Aviv Port area for lunch. It's only a 15-20 minute walk through the park, but if you're saving on energy it's only a short taxi ride.
Lunch in the Port Area
There is a string of restaurants along the Promenade in Tel Aviv's Port area. The place has been renovated lately, and is now paved with wooden boards which give it a nice aesthetic touch. There are a number of very good restaurants, such as Mul-Yam and Gilli's (especially the restaurant's elaborate brunch, which is served until 17:00; address: Hangar 25, (03) 605-7777). However, a more reasonable and simple option would be Shalvata. This restaurant is open only in summer and offers plenty of room for the kids to play (along with various toys and amusements). You can sit and enjoy the sea view while the kids play in the sand.
Take a walk or try the Planetarium
Whether with or without taking a little nap to separate your day up and recoperate, it's now time for a little afternoon activity in the Big City
If you have very young kids, you could simply extend your time on the sandy Tel Aviv beaches or stroll down The Promenade. If your kids are a little older, you could check out the Planetarium in Erez Israel Museum - an interesting experience for the whole family.
Swimming and Sunset on the Beach
At around 16:00 the sun becomes less scorching and it's the perfect time to go down to the beach - the best place for children. Fetch a bucket and spade to amuse the kids and enjoy an ice cold beer on the sand or in one of the cafes.
When the day is over, it's time for you to have some fun of your own while your children sleep peacefully after their busy day in Tel Aviv. Take a look at our Restaurants and Nightlife sections to get some ideas (And remember, if all you fell like is collapsing, there are many restaurants that offer deliveries).
