Haj Kahil Shawarma |
Haj Kahil is one of the most well known places for authentic lamb shawarma in Tel Aviv. For those who aren't familiar with the dish, shawarma is another wonderful local specialty. Keeping to the same serving concept of falafel (i.e. fast and in a pita) the shawarma is the meaty, non-vegetarian Israeli fast food option. One useful tip before we even get started - make sure the skewer is turning when you get a shawarma (particularly if you're not familiar with the place)! A shawarma that has been standing is less than wonderful...
Haj Kahil offers three kinds of shawarma - turkey, beef and lamb - and one "special shawarma" that includes more of the lamb fat. All the shawarmas are fresh, crispy and tasty, but if your going for the classic version, try the lamb. You choose the kind you prefer, pay for it at the cash register and then choose the salads and the sauces you want to go with it. Spicy sauce, vegetable salad, onions and tahini would be the classic toppings - but there are many more options to choose from.
Haj Kahil is a tasty and clean place that is conveniently located on the Clock Tower Square in Jaffa.
