In the very centre of Hacarmel Market, you can enjoy sitting in one of the most picturesque restaurants in Tel Aviv, located in a beautifully renovated building from the very first days of the city. THIS PLACE HAS BEEN CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
Carmella Bistro offers a very wide menu including breakfast, lunch, dinner and a lovely tasting menu too. The location is really extraordinary and the interior design very complementary of it. The food is Mediterranean and focuses mainly of fresh fish, seafood, green salads and unique roasts, but there is a wide selection of other dishes.
The level of the food is a little inconsistent, at times the food and the service are all charming and sitting on the small balcony outside delightful, but other times the food isn't up to the level it should be and the service a little inattentive. But the atmosphere does go a long way, so you can take your chances.
In the menu you will find a large breakfast for two (118 NIS), including drinks, a variety of salads with salmon, vegetables and other delights, and a main plate with eggs (A frittata or a Shakshuka – a local spicy specialty with tomatoes, onion and Paprika). There is a rather good business lunch served between 13:00-17:00 on weekdays (85 NIS).
And there are other interesting dishes such as Chicken Liver Pâté with chutney and Papadam (39 NIS), a nice Beef Fillet Carpaccio with balsamic and parmesan (39 NIS), and for the main course Fillet of Fish with Jerusalem artichoke and cream of celery (89 NIS) or Veal Roast with vegetables and a dates (89 NIS), among other options.
So whether at the end of a stroll around the market or just for the restaurant itself, Carmella offers a lovely experience (if you arrive on a good day…).
