Tel Aviv’s most well know Asian-Fusion restaurant is the Giraffe Noodle Bar, a focal culinary establishment in the city.

Located on Ibn Gvirol Street the lazy outdoor seating area contrasts well with the hectic indoor climate this popular place offers. A mix of Thai, Chinese, Japanese and even Afghan kitchens, all the noodle dishes are excellent and can be changed according to your own personal taste (and pocket). Especially popular are the Imperial and Crispy dishes, which can be ordered “Kosher style” or “Vegetarian”. Dishes are served the moment they are ready, which might lead to some envious glares from your fellow (hungry) tablemates.

The appetizers and rice dishes are not bad but the noodle portions are the thing. The portions are huge and you will surely want to leave room for something sweet since the Giraffe is famous for its desserts to die for, they make it worth a visit even if you are not particularly hungry. In recent years the Giraffe has opened a handfull of satellite locations (one of which is in the southern city Eilat) with similar menus and atmosphere, but nothing beats the experience of the original.

Last night five friends and I ate at Giraffe. The food was great and the atmosphere was nice BUT later that night four out of the five of us who ate Pad Thai became sick with stomach pains. It was very unpleasant. We then called to inform Giraffe at the location we at ate, so other customers would not get sick as well, and the first person we spoke to was nice but then we were transferred to a supervisor.

This person was rude to my friend and dismissive about the compliant and warning. Being sick was one thing, being ignored is a whole other issue and problem. I am very angry and upset with Giraffe about my experience last night.

    • Bianca Luna  - Food poisoning from Pad Thai

I have been sick since shortly after eating Pad Thai at Giraffe's Ibn Gabirol location on Sunday afternoon. I actually thought it couldn't be that food because I thought it was well cooked, but you can't see the cooking practices, or how they handle their meat. I suspect bad campylobacter (which you can't smell or taste), since over 90% of poultry carries it and it has to reach 190 Degrees Farenheit before it dies. Salmonella is less likely. In stir-frying, it is often the center of the larger chicken chunks that don't make it to that temp., and thus we get sick. I've been in bed for three days, and have had fever, chills, and violent mal-digestion. It is horrible. I will never return to GIRAFFE unfortunately.
