Babette (On Shabazi Street) |
|
Babette is certainly the most beautiful and expensive children's clothing shop in Tel Aviv, a tragic combination.
When Israelis want to express their opinion of a place which they perceive as remarkable or out of the ordinary, they say it feels like being abroad. Sometimes it feels just like a cafe in Paris, other times like a Piazza in Rome or a garden in England, all depending on style and mood.
Babette is one of those places that would be defined in European terms; its refined décor, beautiful lighting, colours, and of course exquisite clothes (such as the talented "Oilily"). But the cost does go with these elements, and for most Israeli salaries the items are almost unaffordable. But the exchange rate for the Dollar and the Euro will make the cost less offensive, and it is money well spent (in the hedonistic-aesthetic sense).
