The Levontine is a popular bar in an up and coming area of Tel Aviv called "Electric Garden" area, just a couple of minutes walk from Allenby St. It isn't out of the ordinary to see Levontine packed with people. When you pass by on the street you can look through the glass entrance and see all the people packed together like sardines in a tin. But since popular is just another criterion for establishing the level of the place, we'll take it as a good sign! It has an oriental sort of touch. For now there is a "Mizrahi" night every Wednesday, which is a night of Israeli-Arab music. The more famous representatives of this genre are Sarit Hadad, Zahava Ben or the mythological Zohar Argov. This night is a absolute success, packed with loads of people all in high spirits. There are nice nibbles such as pastry filled with cheese or dishes with aubergine and meat, also influenced by Mizrahi cuisine, and the prices are fair. But the place can get quite overcrowded so choose a weekday (except for Wednesday!) or a relatively early hour if you prefer to avoid the hustle of crowds. Open: Sun-Sat 22:00-Last customer. Address: 11 Levontine St. Tel: (03) 560-7934 |
