The Armadillo - an unpresumptuous and cool local bar in the area of Shenkin St.
One of the latest trends in Tel Aviv is the local or "neighborhood" bars. New bars are opening up in the middle of residential areas to provide a casual and easygoing drinking option. The Armadillo Bar is amongst the most popular.
Everyone knows everyone here, but since Tel Aviv has a rather less than friendly atmosphere in principle (neighbors just walk past each other without so much as a smile!), there isn't a cramped feeling of intimacy. It usually has a very pleasant buzz in the place, and at least one local celebrity can be spotted almost every evening. The décor is nice yet unimaginative, but if you want to get the local vibe it is one of the best places.
A second "branch" of Armadillo has opened on Dizengoff Street, and its name - Armadillo-Cerveza (do tell it from its big sis). Once again, an excellent mellow bar that is packed every day of the week.
Open: Sun-Thu 18:00-2:00, Fri 20:00-3:00. Sat 19:00-3:00
Address: 51 Ehad Ha'am St., 174 Dizengoff St.
