The nightlife in Tel Aviv is much-admired around the world for its vibrancy and intensity. Cutting edge music, stylish clubbers, partying till dawn and more; all you can expect from the clubbing scene in Tel Aviv.
Are mega clubs still in?There are many night clubs and dance bars in Tel Aviv, but due to many difficulties these places face (municipal regulations, people prefering the new and hip places etc.), old places close down and new places open all the time. So the places mentioned in this section have either earned their status by persisting through time, or are new and promising places we can only hope will still be open by the time you get around to them.
There has been a significant decline in the popularity of the "Mega-clubs" in Israel in the last couple of years. These days, people prefer smaller places with cheaper entrance fees and less of a fuss. Accomodating themselves to the changing preferences, many of the new places mentioned are not big and flashy but rather dark and more intimate.
In any case, the only thing the Israeli crowd won't compromise on is the quality of the music, so you can usually count on the consistency of that element.
Parties in secret locationsSome of the best parties are random, located in different places around and in Tel Aviv, for a one-off event. Keep your eyes and ears open to find out which parties are on while you are in Israel. Some groups are well known and have party organizers distributing invitations in different venues around town. One of the most acclaimed groups in this category is Pacotek, a group originating in Jerusalem but organizing parties all over the country. Check out their excellent website to see what's on: www.pacotek.com
You can find info in some bars and in the local newspapers (Timeout and Achbar Ha'ir), but they are in Hebrew, which makes the information a little less accessible to tourists. You could always count on the kindness of strangers to translate the essential details, or harass an Israeli who seems to know his or her way around the nightlife in Tel Aviv to get some up-to-date party info.
