Area codes can get a little confusing in foreign countries. Here is a short explanation on how it works to, from and in Israel. International CallsTo Israel
When calling Israel from any part of the world you should dial your country's international code (00) followed by 972 and the area code of the city you are calling. For example:
00-972-3- 5555555 for a number in Tel Aviv
(Make sure not to include the 0 before the city area code or a cellular phone code - not 054 but just 54)
From Israel
Israel has four different International phone companies, all offer more or less the same price range unless you sign up for special deals they offer.
Local CallsWhen dialing in Israel these are the area codes of the different cities (including the surrounding area):
For cellular phones the full area coed is always necessary (050/052/054), but make sure you don't dial the area code when you are in it! |

I've been trying to call an 052 number for hours now without any success. When I'm on Skype, it keeps telling me it's an invalid number... I believe it's a cell phone. Can anyone help me out??? I've already purchased the Skype credit, but if I need to purchase a calling card tomorrow, I will do so... If so, what card do I purchase?

Due to the numbers portability law the numbers does not necessarily point to a specific carrier but generally this is the division:
Bezeq: 02, 03, 04, 08, 09
Smile 012 (VoB): 072-2
Netvision 013: (VoB)073-7
Cellcom land-line: 073-2
Partner: 074-7
Bezeq international: 076-5
Hot (Cable): 077
Testing services: 078
Pelephone (cellular): 050 (CDMA2000/EV-DO/UMTS)
Cellcom (cellular): 052 (GSM/GPRS/EDGE)
Orange-Partner (cellular): 054 (GSM/UMTS/HSDPA)
Mirs (cellular): 057 (iDEN)
Other numbers:
Toll-free: 1-800/1-801/1-809 (now: free only from land-lines, from march 28 2010 free from all lines)
Split cost: 1-700 (only from land-lines, the caller pays only for the first 3.5 minutes, from cell phones - regular call to a land-line).
Other numbers like *xxxx, 1-200 (televoting), 1-222 (surveys) etc are usually a regular call.
For calling from Israel the prefixes are:

I have an old survey from 1992. It has the phone numbers of the surveyor but extra digits have been added since 1992. The cell number begins 055. What would that be today - 054 5 or 050 5 or 052 5. Also the area code for the land line is 06. I'm not sure that is an area code now. Was it incorporated into another area code? Thanks for your help.

If I have a cellular phone-Samsung and my carrier is
Verizone Wireless, will that phone work in Jerusalem, Israel? It has been globally activated here in the USA.
Do I simply use the area code when I am not in that area and simply leave out the area code when I am in that area? Advise and thank you. Andrew Nelson

I believe one of my friend has area code 054, but the odd thing is that there are only 10 numbers including the zero. I tried your method to call without the zero, but I get the same result...nothing. What else can I do to call this person? I'm calling from the U.S. and I've been trying for awhile now, and it hasn't work.

when you call from abroad no need to dial 0 in codes like 03 or 054; when you are in Israel.do dial 0.

Hi Katie, a cell phone number in Israel should have only 10 digits including the zero, which means you aren't missing out on any digits.
So, from the U.S. you should be dialing 00 (or any other international code)-972-54 and then the next 7 digits. If that's what you're already doing, there must be some problem with the number or the phone itself.
